State media reported that a road traffic accident in the eastern province of Jiangxi on Sunday resulted in the deaths of 17 people and the injuries of 22 others.

According to CCTV, which cited local authorities, “the accident caused 17 deaths, 22 people were injured, and the injured have been sent to the hospital.”

It stated that the “major road traffic accident” occurred in Nanchang County just before 1 a.m. (1700 GMT).
CCTV added, “The cause of the accident is under in-depth investigation.”

A little over an hour after the news broke, the traffic police of Nanchang County issued travel advice to motorists, stating that the region was experiencing “foggy weather.”

It stated, “Driving visibility is poor, low visibility, which can easily cause traffic accidents.”

It continued, “Please pay attention to fog lights… slow down, drive cautiously, maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you, avoid pedestrians, and do not change lanes and overtake.”
