Dushanbe: The US Geological Survey reported that a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Tajikistan on Thursday. Around 5:37 a.m. local time (0037 GMT), the quake struck at a depth of approximately 20.5 km (12.7 miles).
The USGS estimated that “little or no population” would be affected by the earthquake’s landslides.
Gorno-Badakhshan, a semi-autonomous eastern region that borders China and Afghanistan, appeared to be its epicenter.
A 5.0-size consequential convulsion hit the region around 20 minutes after the underlying shudder.
The towering Pamir Mountains surround the sparsely populated region.
