Bill Gates, a billionaire and philanthropist, called for scientific breakthroughs to address climate change on Wednesday and urged India to lead.

He stated, “It just gets slightly worse somewhere every year, but it’s one of the hardest things to fix because modern economies around the world are based on energy intensity and over 80% of this energy comes from burning hydrocarbons.”

The fifth Ramnath Goenka lecture was given by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation trustee and co-chairman Gates on “Creating an Equal World: Innovation’s ‘Power’ The Indian Express Group was in charge of planning the event.
He stated that the challenge of developing solutions that are not only cost-effective but also dependable in order to address the issue of climate change is “pretty incredible.”

“I find these challenges exciting and always see a chance for innovation if we can get young people to understand the challenge and provide them with capital. Then, I believe innovation can contribute to human advancement,” he stated.

Gates stated that the world “counts on India to play a central role” as the “global innovation boom” tackles the challenging issues of climate change.

“With 700 million young people and educational institutions, it only grows stronger. Therefore, we require innovation from all over the world, but particularly from India,” he stated.

He went on to say, “We are looking to India for a significant part of that so that we can overcome the great challenges that the world faces.”

According to Gates, “most of the emission” that contributes to heating comes from rich nations, but “most of the damage” will come from middle- and lower-income nations near the equator.

He continued, “So it’s an incredible injustice.” “Even though it kind of creeps up on you, we need to act now in a very big way.” Gates was appreciative of India’s efforts in the renewable energy sector.

He added, “India is leading the way in demonstrating all kinds of innovative applications.”
